NCA (No Chewing Allowed) Day 1

I got through my first day of my liquid diet. Again, this isn’t so much of a cleanse but rather a three day long no chewing event. I want to give my tummy a break from digesting hard to digest foods and let the liquid foods do their job and move on through my body.

So yesterday I had a simple protein powder mix. It was actually kind of gross. I hadn’t gone shopping to make any kind of smoothie, so it was just vanilla protein powder and water. But it filled me up after my 30 minute run.

I am drinking coffee–a direct quote from my dad yesterday “I wouldn’t want to be around you if you were hungry AND under caffeinated.” So for others safety and job security I had a coffee with a bit of milk in it.

Next door to the shop I work at is a raw juice bar (convenient, right?) so around 1:30 I went and got a Ginger Zinger. It was a blend of an orange, beets, carrots, ginger, and some other good stuff that I don’t remember. It actually tasted great and filled me up!!

For an evening fix I blended a banana, lots of spinach, soy milk and a bit more protein powder. Super filling and tasty.

THEN, unexpectedly I was invited to go for coffee in the evening, however in a little town like this coffee shops are not open late so we went and got frozen yogurt instead–I got a mix of different flavors and just didn’t put any of the crunchy yummy toppings on it! Not part of my three day plan, but when you also want to have some sort of social or dating life you have to roll with the punches and not say ‘no’! Haha.

So I’m clearly not starving myself. I’m guessing I’m getting around 1000-1200 calories. I did run, but not far. I think I’m going to not run tonight, maybe do some strength exercises tonight after work.

Silent Motivation

Sometimes I say I’m going to go for a run. I say, I’ll go after work, meeting, lunch, coffee date “after________ insert obligation here” I hate not running first thing. My typical routine is to get up, roll out of bed, stuff something in my mouth and go run. My mind still numb, sleep still in my eyes, I like to start my day with fresh air not a computer screen. But, like most normal people that’s not always possible!

Today, for example, I just wasn’t feeling it—and I had to be at a meeting, and I didn’t really want to go to the meeting with wet hair or sweaty after the run. So I gave myself some silent motivation.

Silent motivation is the best form. While getting dressed I squished my boobs into my ultra tight, unforgiving, uuber supportive sports bra. So at my meeting I knew I had something I had to do after. Though comfortable, the bra always makes itself known to the wearer. No way was I going to be defeated and [gasp] take off the bra with out sweating in it first! HELL NO!

So what did I do when I got home? I traded my clogs for running shoes, my cotton for wicking and hit the road for a few miles. Silent motivation…works every time. [Wink]

Lesson Learned

I like to pride myself in being some sort of bad ass runner. Well, at least in the sense that I’m usually really happy running in shorts most of the year. I don’t understand the people I see running in 40 degree weather with pants on, it just seems silly. The other day I went out to run, it was 33 degrees or so—sported my favorite shorts, long sleeve top, fleece vest (it’s all about keeping the core warm) and some gloves. I was good to go. I had great temperature regulation with the zipper on my vest (it’s amazing what showing a little neck does!)

On my 5 mile jaunt through the valley I passed several runners. We waved, nodded, said good morning to one another. Many of them in pants. I honestly felt bad for them. I feel like they don’t know that running in shorts can continue through the fall season. I want to let them in on the secret, but am not sure how. Hopefully seeing me and a few others sporting shorts and long sleeve tops (moinka is what my Dad and I call it) will help guide them to autumn running bliss.

This morning however I ran in pants. I ripped my favorite shorts and have yet to find a needle and thread to sew them up, (yes, I’m that cheap.) I over dressed. I didn’t believe Weatherchannel.com when it said it was 35 out, mainly because I woke up cold and just wanted to be warm. Well, my five miles this morning was HOT. Lesson learned. Shorts from now on unless it’s under 30 degrees.
